Outliers

We tend to notice who’s different:
the odd, the withdrawn,
or unheeded,

including the principled strong
who refuse to do
what is wrong.

These are those we torment,
drive out,
and make sure to kill;

only when they’re gone,
find out how much they were needed:
real grass in a tinsel lawn.
