Poet

Distance

There was little love in her life
although we tried,
my sisters and I, to provide it.

We were rebuffed
and, worse than rebuffed,
we were punished.

What now is clear,
the punishment drove all us off
too far to hear
what we see now as frantic requests.

We were too near.
