Poet

Ship at Night

No up, no down,
suspension in darkness
and the sound of water,

voices fading from consciousness,
conveying motion without direction.

And, then, a scream,
a star whose glow
reflects above and below.

Is it two?
If so, the night is far too deep
and stars too few.
