Time and Time Again

Time has a certain value
inside our minds
that enables human decisions
or raises questions;
such as if…and, if so, then when:
now or in the future?

Review of past experience
informs our lessons.
Time, thus, as an educator,
may teach regret,
foster fear
and enable planning.

It’s the basis of fear and hope,
whether positive expectation
or grim despair.

Time’s divided into days, weeks and months;
finally, years and decades;
is itself the creator of history,
maybe even love.
Who knows what the future will bring?

But we know that time
proceeds at its own sweet pace
or dawdles,
just as Esmeralda;

has a human face
that expresses need for quality
and speed;
whether peace or delivery of destruction;

of itself brings hope, also dejection…
nonetheless, yet is
our brains’ activity and construction:
existential time.
