Precedents
Precedents, elected by usage,
may be set aside
once having become abusive,
or are just passed by
by time and modernized agreements,
or are thrown out
when measured against
other achievements.
They are not the law,
but, sadly, are perceived as such,
are sometimes clutched
in the way babies “smug” a blanket
and do not let go,
as if the Almighty ordained them,
treating loss as sin.
In the end they pass, as alas,
does Spring,
forgotten as a grave mistake,
and so are buried;
soil covered over, no tombstone laid,
no kind of marker;
but carefully carpeted with clover.
